Larrikin Love shines with Happy As Annie

Larrikin Love has caught my eye and ear with their song “Happy As Annie”. The video was on TV this morning and amongst the repetitive crooning and jingly jangly sounds that tend to populate the video channels on a normal day, Larrikin Love stood out from the rest.
“Happy As Annie” has a folky traditional feel with a punk edge which I absolutely love. It’s one of the best new songs that I’ve heard so far this year. It was released in 2006 but for some reason this one had slipped by me until now (must have had my head in the clouds). “Six Queens” which is up on their Myspace page sounds great as does the Rawhidesque sounding “Ribbon Dance Mews” and their more mellow track “A Little Peace In My Heart”.
Hopefully the London based Larrikin Love will be playing the festival circuit this summer - especially Glastonbury. I would have to say that they seem like the kind of band that would put on a great live show.
