The Shins new single, “Phantom Limb” is the first release off of their third album Wincing The Night Away. The Shins, originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, are now based in Portland, Oregon. They’ve released Wincing The Night Away not only via Sub Pop Records in the US but also through their new UK label - Transgressive Records.

This is good news for UK fans as we’ll probably be hearing more from The Shins on radio and video channels. As a matter of fact, the video for “Phantom Limb” was on TV this morning which is how they have caught my attention. So anyone out there in Transgressive Records land working in market research, if it’s you who’s responsible for getting The Shins on the telly, you’re doing a great job!

The Shins’ “Phantom Limb” is a refreshing change from the norm. James Mercer’s smooth, melodic vocals float on top of a vintage pop sound reminiscent of The Beach Boys. I’ll look forward to hearing more from the band as their new label will hopefully be keeping them busy, introducing them and their music to new fans in the UK.
