Klaxons single Golden Skans in UK charts based on downloads alone

Klaxons latest single “Golden Skans” has reached number 14 this week in the UK charts based on download sales alone. Although they’re signed to Polydor I’m sure they’re all delighted about the new rules now that “singles can chart from the moment they become available as official downloads”.
There are a lot of new bands cropping up around the UK as of late. Without actual stats in front of me, it’s hard to tell if this is a new phenomenon or if there has always been this number of new bands each year. If the numbers haven’t changed much, maybe it just seems like more now that the internet provides such easy access to bands - unlike ever before.
There will most likely be a surge of new bands entering the UK charts if Koopa and now Klaxons are anything to go by. This could turn the charts into a faster revolving door of bands coming in and out as more of them master the art of promotion.
I’m not sure if that’s good or bad. For consumers it will be good as there will be more choices, however for bands that enter the charts very early in their career, they might be lucky to get more work at first like tours and appearances, but fewer may experience longevity. Either way though, this is certainly one of the most interesting times to be keeping an eye on the UK singles charts on a weekly basis.

Thisfun, and they are not worried about being classified as “pop” which is also ‘cool’ because real pop should be made of GOOD music, they proved to be this ballsy by doing a cover of Justin Timberlake’s “my love,” Its interesting. Can’t wait to see them Coachella 2007!
