Breaking news from Pollstar. Unsigned indie band Dispatch is reuniting for a benefit show at Madison Square Garden on July 14th 2007 and the tickets have sold out in 30 minutes.
Luckily, another date, July 13th, has been added on but who knows how fast tickets will sell out for the second show. After all, we’re talking about a band who, after they announced they were breaking up in 2003, scheduled one final show that took place in July 2004.
“The Last Dispatch” at Hatch Shell in Boston is said to be “the largest concert in independent music history, where roughly 110,000 fans attended the show.” Not only that, but Myspace has partnered up with them and is helping out with tickets, so more people will be aware the upcoming event.
From the Dispatch Myspace page:
Brad, Chad and Pete will reunite as Dispatch for “DISPATCH: ZIMBABWE,” a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. All of the money raised from ticket sales will go directly to charities that are fighting disease, famine and social injustice in Zimbabwe; a portion will be allocated to local charities that the band supports here in the States as well. Proceeds go towards fighting disease, famine and social injustice in the country of Zimbabwe. A contribution will also be made to local charities. (100% of proceeds will be donated!)
Dispatch formed in Vermont (my old stomping grounds) and were together from 1996-2004 playing roots, folk, reggae and funk. Bands reuniting to help spread the word about important causes is a great idea. With Dispatch originally forming in Vermont I can’t help but wonder if Phish might think of something like this if they ever get back together.
