El Perro Del Mar…just rolls off the tongue. At first glance you might naturally relate this name to a Spanish themed group playing music by the sea. Good guess, but not quite right. El Perro Del Mar (”The dog of the sea”) is actually the name that Singer/Songwriter Sarah Assbring from Gothenburg, Sweden came up with while vacationing on a Spanish beach.

Her music has an old school French pop sound reminiscent to some of Jane Birkin. When I first heard her song, “God Knows (You Gotta Give To Get)” I actually thought of Burt Bacharach - as Sarah has written music that has captured a certain pop sound and feel from a musical era four decades ago. The song certainly has the potential to remain a timeless classic.

The catchy lyrics and the simplicity of El Perro Del Mar’s “God Knows (You Gotta Give To Get)” will have the song going around your head for days. The track is off of the album El Perro Del Mar which was released by her new UK label Memphis Industries earlier this year.
