The most exciting tour so far on the radar is coming to a town near you early next year. The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gnarls Barkley are going to be touring together for the first time, and have now announced the tour dates scheduled to begin on January 12th in Oklahoma City.
Gnarls Barkley is a duo consisting of DJ and producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) and rapper/singer Cee-Lo (Thomas Callaway). Together they combine a funky hip hop, rock, soul and dance sound. Their debut album St. Elsewhere was released in April of this year.
Considering they’re fairly new on the scene, Gnarls Barkley are certainly keeping busy. Rolling Stone Magazine has just named their song “Crazy” the best song of the year, they’ve been nominated for five Grammy Awards, they’re set to play New Year’s with The Flaming Lips and now the upcoming tour with the Red Hot Chili Peppers beginning early next year. I could probably be here all day writing about how many achievements they have under their belt. Is there anything they can’t do?
Then there’s the Chili Peppers. Over the years they’ve continued to create music that stands the test of time without compromising their sound. It’s easy to distinguish Anthony Kiedis’ voice and Flea’s bass from anyone else.
I’ve often wondered if they stay together long enough, if they’ll be to my generation what The Rolling Stones have been to the generations before. After all, I’ve grown up listening to the Chili Peppers since being a young kid in school - and it’s been about twenty years now.
This year the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ninth studio album Stadium Arcadium debuted at #1 on the US charts, and continued to stay at #1 for two weeks. They’ve just received six Grammy nominations and have just announced a tour of Japan and Australia set to begin after their dates with Gnarls Barkley in the US.
