For the first time in 14 years, Bjork and The Sugarcubes reunited on stage Friday November 17th for the 20th anniversary concert celebrating The Sugarcubes first release, “Birthday” in Reykjavik, Iceland. Mum and punk band Rass also performed at the show.
The single was originally put out by The Sugarcubes own label Smekkleysa SM and according to their website, “all profit from the concert goes back into Smekkleysa SM who will continue to work on a non-profit basis for the future betterment of Icelandic music and artists”.
I think it’s great that The Sugarcubes reuniting has not only made a lot of fans happy to have had the opportunity to see them play live again after so many years, but they are also helping to put the spotlight on other Icelandic artists and giving them the opportunity to share their music to the world through Smekkleysa SM.
After a successful show, Bjork can now celebrate her actual birthday which is today! It’s hard to believe that she has just turned 41 - she sounds and looks amazing as you can see from this live performance video of The Sugarcubes playing “Birthday” at their reunion concert in Reykjavik.
